A Mezuzah at the Door of a New Home for Yedei Chesed in Rockland County
When Yedei Chesed opened the doors of its new headquarters in Rockland County, the first thing to go up was a mezuzah. A Kevias Mezuzah ceremony marked the occasion, attended by rabbanim and elected officials — formally dedicating the new building to the mission of dignity, support, and kindness that has guided the organization since its founding in 1992.
The moment was shared by Rockland Daily on Instagram.
How Rockland County's Yedei Chesed Dedicated Its New Headquarters With a Mezuzah and Community Celebration
Yedei Chesed was founded in 1992 by Rabbi Simon Lauber to advocate for the developmentally disabled of our community, committed to providing individuals the opportunity for an improved quality of life and the potential for independence, inclusion, individualization, and productivity. Over more than three decades, the organization has grown into one of Rockland County's most respected nonprofits, serving people with developmental disabilities and their families from birth through the full arc of life.
A new headquarters — attended by rabbanim, elected officials, and community supporters — represents not just additional square footage, but expanded capacity to serve families navigating some of their most demanding and personal challenges. The presence of both rabbinic and civic leadership at the Kevias Mezuzah reflects how broadly Yedei Chesed's work is recognized: this is an organization whose mission crosses the usual boundaries between religious community and public institution.
The mezuzah went up at the entrance of the new building as an act of dedication — marking the threshold of a space whose entire purpose is to make life more dignified and manageable for those who need it most.
The Scroll That Sanctifies the Doorpost
A Kevias Mezuzah ceremony, however moving, depends on the scroll inside for its halachic completion. The parchment must be written by a certified sofer on proper klaf, carefully checked for errors, and affixed correctly. The brachos and the gathering of rabbanim honor the moment — the parchment is what fulfills the mitzvah.
Kosher Mezuzah offers scrolls written by certified soferim, double-checked by expert magihim, and backed by OU endorsement — with every scroll fully traceable through a unique QR code. For communal institutions and private homes alike, that foundation matters.
A New Headquarters, a Mezuzah at the Door
Yedei Chesed has spent over thirty years building something that cannot easily be measured — a network of support, advocacy, and care for families who need it. The new headquarters is its next chapter. The mezuzah on the doorpost is the right way to begin it.
Every new Jewish space deserves a mezuzah from day one. Kosher Mezuzah makes it simple to fulfill the mitzvah properly, with OU-endorsed scrolls written and checked by certified experts. Find your kosher mezuzah scroll here.
